Analyze Email Headers — frequently asked questions
What does an email header analyzer do?
An email header analyzer parses the raw routing, authentication, and security headers of an RFC 822/5322 email. It decodes the journey an email took from sending mail server to destination inbox, showing relay server IP addresses, hop latencies, and authentication statuses.
How does it verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records?
It inspects standard authentication results headers (such as `Authentication-Results` and `Received-SPF`) added by receiving mail servers. These verify whether the sending server IP was authorized by SPF, whether cryptographic DKIM signatures match the sender domain, and whether alignment satisfies DMARC policy.
Are my sensitive email headers or contents uploaded anywhere?
No. Sada Files operates local-first. The parser runs entirely client-side in WebAssembly/JavaScript within your browser. Your email text, subject lines, headers, IP addresses, and identifiers are never uploaded to any server or recorded in logs.
How can I find the raw headers in Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail?
In Gmail, open the email, click the three dots icon next to the Reply button, and select "Show original". In Outlook on the web, click three dots, then "View" -> "View message details". In Apple Mail, choose "View" -> "Message" -> "Raw Source". Copy the header block and paste it here.
Can this tool detect email spoofing or phishing attempts?
Yes. If the `Received` header chain shows unexpected relay hops, or if SPF/DKIM authentication checks indicate `fail` or `softfail` while the sender domain enforces DMARC rejection, it strongly indicates that the email might be spoofed or unauthorized.
