PDF Color Separation Preview — frequently asked questions
What does this tool show?
It renders selected PDF pages, converts the rendered color into process CMYK, and creates a composite soft proof plus separate cyan, magenta, yellow and black plate previews.
Is this a press-certified proof?
No. It is a practical on-screen preview. Final press output still depends on the printer, paper, inks, ICC profile, rendering intent and RIP settings.
What is black generation?
Black generation controls how much neutral gray is moved from cyan, magenta and yellow into the black plate. Heavier settings generally use more black and less CMY in neutral areas.
What is the total ink limit?
It caps the combined C, M, Y and K coverage for each pixel. Commercial print workflows commonly use limits below 400% to reduce drying and registration problems.
What is included in the plate download?
Plate mode downloads a ZIP containing the CMYK composite, four tinted plate images for every selected page, and a JSON report with average and peak ink coverage.
Are my PDFs private?
Yes. Server processing is opt-in, files are encrypted while stored, and they are automatically deleted within 24 hours. You can also delete them immediately.
